We’ve been everywhere man...
We’ve been everywhere man, we’ve been everywhere…Wagga Wagga, Albury, Berrigan, Finley, Tumut, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Yass, Cootamundra, Junee, Leeton, Griffith, Coolamon. We’ve been everywhere.
In partnership with David Horsley and the Screenwave team, Mayfly Media has been lucky enough to travel all over the Riverina and Murray teaching and inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.
Through a series of workshops we had the pleasure of meeting students from a variety of backgrounds including youth groups, school groups and disengaged youth and encouraged them to enter the upcoming Regional Youth Film Festival “Nextwave”.
This has been a wonderful journey. And filmmaking is a powerful tool for our youth to master.
Some of the students we met in small rural drought affected towns were suffering from stress and anxiety and participating in a creative activity like filmmaking is for mindfulness. We heard comments from teachers like, “Wow! We haven’t seen you smile in such a long time” and “Well done! These students don’t usually participate in activities like they have today”. One student said, “Miss I actually laughed!”
We watched some of the students make short videos within the workshops and show it to their classmates, which was followed by big rounds of applause. This is such a huge boost for any student who lacks confidence and we feel so lucky that we can teach these kids the art of filmmaking and be part of those moments.
Congratulations to the Screenwave team. It is a great initiative and Mayfly Media are so proud to be a part of it. Follow the journey by heading to nextwave.com.au.
We can’t wait to see what these students come up with!
