March Newsletter - Can you smell chocolate?

Yep. The Easter Bunny is on its way and after a cracking start to 2021, we’re getting ready to scoff our weight in chocolatey goodness and relax into some amazing Autumn weather. As videographers, this is the perfect time of the year for us, with such great light and beautiful colours. So, while you take five with our latest newsletter (and maybe a sneaky chocolate with your cuppa), we’ll be outside looking to capture the first of the falling leaves. Enjoy!

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Surround Yourself  Narrandera tourism videos

The client: Narrandera Shire Council

The brief: Narrandera Shire Council wanted to develop two videos to showcase Narrandera as a destination for tourism, business and new residents. One video was to highlight Narrandera’s natural assets and the second was to feature local attractions, events and retail outlets.

The response: We worked closely with the client and our good friends at Frank & Earnest to help us tease out the Surround Yourself idea and develop a concept that would work across both films, delivering broad appeal but also targeting two key audiences – the adventurers and the leisure seekers.

We decided on a “weekend story” approach that gives viewers a taste of the region and lets the natural assets and vibrant community do the talking. We called in some local amateur talent to be our models and along with a number of local hospitality providers, they were all incredibly good sports. The wildlife was also pretty obliging, although the koalas were a little on the diva-ish side!

While COVID-19 hindered some of our ideas, particularly for filming community events, we managed to gather footage some of the region’s most impressive offerings by spreading the filming days across the better side of 9 months and really give visitors a feel for how beautiful and enjoyable Narrandera can be.

The films were premiered at a drive-in movie night towards the end of 2020and the client was wrapped with the result. So were we!

Why it worked: With such beautiful landscapes, we knew we had to go for a cinematic feel. So, we pulled out all the stops –sweeping drone shots, sun rays, slow-mo and extreme close-ups. And to ensure we produced an authentic slice of Narrandera, we were careful to include genuine locals, streetscapes and every-day experiences. There’s nothing depicted here that you wouldn’t honestly get to experience in an average wee

ON THE BOIL

As always, there’s a few projects bubbling along for us at the moment.

Trailing around

When Rail Trails NSW calls, you can bet we have our backpacks on before we finish getting the brief! There was no question that we would be happy to film this feature video of the Tumbarumba-Rosewood Rail Trail for Rail Trails NSW. Aimed at promoting the idea of a trail into other communities, we loved every minute of filming for this one. It was a no-brainer for us to film as a family and we have been itching to get back since.

Visiting with purpose
We’re always keen to work with the Riverina Community College and we love a feel-good story. So it’s a double win for us to be working on a video for new volunteers into their CommunityVisitors Service (CVS). The CVS is a free program that sees volunteers visiting with people who may be at risk of experiencing isolation due to family, social, cultural reasons or a disability. Volunteer community visitors can do anything from sitting and chatting through to working a hobby, reading, going for a walk or discussing local news and they are out there now doing their thing in Wagga Wagga, Leeton Narrandera, Gundagai, Harden, Junee, Tumut, Lockhart, Temora and Deniliquin areas.

Documenting wartime art
There is just something that’s so fascinating about talking with artists. A recent micro-documentary project commissioned by the Queensland Library has us talking with a World War II vet about a particular glass mosaic piece he created during the war that now forms part of the permanent collection at the Library. It’s not only a beautiful piece but has an amazing story too and we can’t wait to share this one. Stay tuned!

BEHIND THE SCENES

Lexie’s forming the future

Lexie got her fill of creative thinking and brain-picking recently when she attended an Australia Council for the Arts event, Future Form Leadership Exchange.

The event brought together a small group of local creatives with expert facilitators and representatives from 12 leading arts organisations across Australia. Lexie’s big ideas have been on overdrive ever since. “There was so much to love about being a part of this event but possibly the best thing was meeting likeminded people with similar interests and goals, and the incredible exchange of ideas that comes with that.”
